ABOUT:
Trashing Performance Fringe was exactly that; a satelite event to the institutionally organised, Performance Matters: Trahing Performance (a collaboration between Goldsmiths, University of London, Roehampton University, and the Live Art Development Agency). ]performance s p a c e [ directors Bean and Benjamin Sebastian participated in the Performance Matters symposium; Mainstream V’s Underground (with Neil Bartlett, Bruce Benderson, Dominic Johnson, Keith Khan, Mara Vujic & Lois Keidan) - discussing the position(s) of both ArtEvict and ]performance s p a c e [ within the current landscape of Performance/Live Art praxis and how each is located within the dialectics of mainstream/underground culture.
Beyond the frame of the symposium, a fringe event was curated by the duo on the 30th of October, to coincide with the close of the Trashing Performance programme. The Trashing Performance Fringe consisted of primarily site specific performance art works which responded to/were in conflict with, concepts of the fringe, outsider(s), mainstream/underground, queer, trans, nomadism, boundaries/borders, and Hackney Wick (as site).
